The structure of Silent Chain is very simple: only boards and pins. There are eight different pitches from 9.52 mm to 50.8 mm.

The link plate bears the pulling force and has a recess for engaging the sprocket. There are no gaps on the guide plate. These plates act as guides for the sprockets.

The pins can be round or have other shapes. All chain components are under tension. Silent Chain has higher carrying capacity than roller chains of the same width.

Since the link plate of Silent Chain hits the sprocket at a certain angle, the impact force and noise can be reduced. This is why these chains are called "silence". The higher the chain speed, the greater the difference from the roller chain.
